Welcome to the U8s!
This is the last age group to still be playing tag rugby, ie non-contact.
In true Rosslyn Park style, we have decided to use this season as an opportunity to focus on handling, team work, commitment without the ball and communication in defense. We believe that although this is a tag season, it should help us prepare for the contact seasons to come!
Our 5 teams have progressed massively since the beginning of the season and although silverware is not our primary objective, it has convinced the players that when they apply what we are doing on the pitch results are likely to follow.
Pre-season training led to our undefeated performance early September from our A team at the double-header pre tournament in Twickenham. In the afternoon, we ended up narrowly edging Ealing in front of 42,000 spectators. Where do you go from there!?
Well, back to the training pitch with a smile on your face! Coaches and players are simply having a great deal of fun challenging each other in best possible spirit.

As a result, so far:
As have won the Windsor and Reeds festivals. They also have qualified for the semis of the Etihad curtain raiser and were very upset that the Sutton & Epsom festival ended up to be cancelled! They were so ready…it hurts!
A2s, the stronger B team, have also won their tournament at Windsor, shared the plate at Cobham before qualifying for the semis of the Etihad curtain raiser! Huge coaching achievements in this team especially with a new coaching team and the new blood assimilating the Rosslyn Park techniques effectively.
B1s, our second B team have won the bowl in Guildford and the plate in Wimbledon and will be at the forthcoming Etihad qualifiers! Now that the team has settled the experienced coaches have strengthened the defense and support 10-fold!
our development teams have been very successful playing in home and away matches with Teddington, Cobham and Ealing and are now starting to play competitive festivals in November. We have the depth in development and they are having a great time.
We have a pretty packed fixtures list this season for all 5 teams– a mixture of training at the main Rosslyn Park ground, friendly training sessions at other clubs and away festival tournaments. All players have opportunities to shine and focus on developing their rugby skills.
Our dedication to coaching and player development mean that we tailor our approach to the players ability to concentrate, their coordination profile, athleticism, team playing attitude but not necessarily their rugby skills. We endeavour to place the children in the best possible position to express themselves as they will be picked solely on what they do on the pitch.
If you are keen to have your child to find out if he or she likes rugby, Tag is the best way to find out. This season we will introduce contact lightly from mid February 2010 in training only.
Should you want to come along for a trial session, or want to know more, please contact Stephan Israel, our manager and head coach email Stephan@gartmoor.co.uk
