Under 5s and U6s

Sunday 18th March – The Curry Cup 2012

This Sunday saw the high point of the U5s and U6s season in the Curry Cup – sponsored for its fourth year by the Putney Tandoori.

8 teams from Battersea Ironsides, London Welsh, Wimbledon and Barnes joined 8 teams from the Rosslyn Park U6s for a feast of tag rugby, played and watched in great spirit by all.

The U5s hosted several teams from RuggerBeez.

Aims of the U5s and U6s at Rosslyn Park

We welcome children in their first year of Reception at school and have had some children start earlier. The emphasis here is on developing basic hand-eye co-ordination and running skills. Above all we want the kids to have fun and to leave training exhausted but happy.

It is absolutely vital that parents get involved in the sessions – the more helpers, the more attention we can give the children…and the more fun the parents have too!

In recent years we have provided early initiation into competition organising friendly triangulars with other clubs. For the last two years we have run the Curry Cup getting all our players involved. This year’s Curry Cup sees visiting U5s teams from RuggerBeez, U6s teams from Barnes, Battersea Ironsides and Wimbledon.

In the U6s we have fielded teams of eligible players in the Teddington end of season Development Festival at U6 (the RFU rules are that the players must have reached their 6th birthday by the day they play in an official tournament).

We are keen to welcome enthusiastic new players of all abilities. For more information about the Under 5s or 6’s, please contact Anthony Cunningham on u6minis@rosslynpark.co.uk.
